Since 2012 has started, Chief Keef has to be one of the names that has come across in either our inbox or in conversation with the co-sign by Kanye West. Now, Keef joins the G.O.O.D. Music leader along with Pusha T, Jadakiss and Big Sean.
Usher is gearing up to own the summer as he prepares to release his album Looking for Myself, with the release of “Climax” and ”Scream” thus far and his latest single is the Rick Ross featured “Lemme See.” Usher went for an upbeat club anthem with “Scream,” but he slows things down again with a new verse from Rozay.
Expect a different approach to his third album, as the Toronto MC stated on a press conference last week. Fans should expect his musical content will have evolved far from what we heard on his 2009 mixtape So Far Gone, sophomore LP Take Care and 2010′s Thank Me Later.
“I think that my mood will be reflected in the tempos that I choose for the music,” Drake said. “A lot of Take Care, it’s down, a lot of it’s down and I think a lot of that had to do with being back home in Toronto and getting reacquainted with the life I had before and the difficulties of that, but at the same time trying to express excitement and trying to express joy.”
Compiled from footage of their SXSW performance at Austin Hall, here’s the video features cameos from Trae the Truth, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Big Sean, Tony YaYo, our very own Sway and MC Hammer.
Crooked I said, of the video. “We’re gonna give fans a chance to shine, and I think when it’s done, you’ll see how authentic it is. When we roll into town, we jell with people, no matter where they are, who they are, what part of the world they’re from. We’re just average dudes trying to do extraordinary things.”
Last time we checked David Banner was from Mississippi but that doesn’t mean you can’t get some of the best from the west to get on a track and make it for the video too.
You can always count on Nas to bring lavish-hood living to the forefront and we continuously love him for that. Watch as Esco journey’s around Gotham City in vintage Rolls Royce to dining with friend and former manager Steve Stoute. The video was directed by Aristotle and maintains a solid consistency with the No I.D produced track. Look for Nas’ tenth studio album, Life Is Good to release on July 17.
Bill Brewster, the Grimsby-born lad, started out as a DJ around Harlem and the East Village in the early-80s and has since built an encyclopaedic knowledge of music, as demonstrated by his two popular books on the subject: “Last Night A DJ Saved My Life” and the sardonic DJ manual, “How To DJ (Properly)”.
For his mix, Bill has brought together a collection of the tracks that define the post-punk era for him, a time when genres smashed together with tremendous creative force and music expanded its frontiers in every direction. Unsurprisingly from a published author, Bill provided with a lengthy description of his mix, complete with a track-by track dissection.
Emotions where high yesterday when the news surfaced that J Dilla’s records were going up for sale by a Michigan record store… sale of the records is now on hold, at least temporarily, while the proprietor, Jeff Bubeck of UHF records in Royal Oak, MI coordinates with the J Dilla Foundation and Dilla’s mom Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey. Yesterday evening the Detroit News posted a follow-up story, reporting that Bubeck was now in touch with Yancey who offered to help authenticate the records and ensure that some proceeds from the sale went to the Foundation (before yesterday, Bubeck reported that his attempts to contact Ma Dukes and the Foundation had been unsuccessful).
In addition to Yancey’s input, a groundswell of negative reaction to yesterday’s news–in particular, phonecalls and comments on UHFs facebook page–prompted the decision to pull those records already offered for sale from the store’s shelves. It’s unclear how many of the pieces, first made available for purchase last week for Record Store Day, have already been sold.
Smims&Belle, a DJ project from Mark Foster and Isom Innis of Foster the People fame, release a remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans” featuring Azealia Banks. The high-energy offering is a blending of several different genres of music – including electro, techno and splashes of hip-hop – all of which come together to work in a harmonious affair. While the “sound” is anything you’d come to expect from members of Foster the People, recruiting two of the most buzzed about female artists is certainly a step in the right direction when exploring a passion project.
