Drop-Top Music Vol. 3

1956 Jaguar XK140 OTS - Drop-Top Music Vol. 3

My attraction for the 1956 Jaguar Roadster first came while I was watching Cruel Intentions in 1999 and since then this vehicle has been on my list of vehicles to own. The one pictured is the XK140 OTS edition. In 1954 Jaguar introduced the XK140 as a replacement for successful Jaguar XK120 that first appeared in 1948. The XK Series was conceived by William Lyons as a sleek automobile that sat atop a short wheelbase in two-seat roadster configuration powered by a twin-cam engine. The XK140 carried on the success started by the XK120. The OTS version proved again to be the most popular with sales for the DHC and Fixed versions still respectable. If you’re familiar with the Jaguar history and its lingo, you may know that ‘OTS’ refers to ‘open two-seater’ or ‘roadster’ and ‘DHC’ stands for ‘drop-head coupe’. The roadster versions often featured removable side curtains instead of windows.

Now that you have your ride situated and we’re giving you some proper tunes to drive while you’re in the roadster, it’s only right that we give you some advice on what garments to wear. I’ll start off suggesting seersucker shorts and a white oxford shirt (first two buttons should be unbuttoned), go ahead and roll up the sleeves. Hmmm which watch to wear? Grab the Ballon Bleu de Cartier flying tourbillion model and your Havana Kennedy’s by anon. Now, one of the most essential parts of your outfit deals with the footwear, this is where your entire outfit can go to all hell. Reach into our closet and get the Zuriick Aqua Nadal. Dab some Egyptian Musk on your neck and you and the misses are ready to ride out to the beach and enjoy some champagne and brunch.

Drop-Top Music Vol. 2

rolls-royces-drop-top-music

When creating the Phantom Drophead Coupe the Royce design team drew inspiration from the classic J-class racing yachts of the 1930s. The fastest yachts of their time, these pedigree vessels possessed a spectacular combination of ability, versatility and fitness for purpose. It’s this sense of functionality, immediacy and exposure to the elements their designers admired, and what they have striven to capture in the Phantom Drophead Coupe’s thrilling lines.

Honesty and integrity were paramount in the design process, which is why the Phantom Drophead Coupe has a soft-top, rather than a folding metal roof so beloved by the rest of the car industry. As Ian Cameron, (Rolls-Royce’s Chief Designer), says, ‘It was very important that we didn’t create a folding hardtop, because that is an unclear proposition. Our customers wouldn’t own a reversible jacket, so why would they buy a convertible that looks like a Coupe? Besides, there’s nothing more romantic than sitting in a soft-top car and listening to the rain pattering on the cloth hood.’ With That said….Turn it up loud, and RIDE OUT!

Drop-Top Music Vol. 1

1970-chevy-corvette

Although the auto industry has run for the hills, we’ve found a way to keep it alive with for the existing car consumer by giving them some tunes to ride around to as the summer has officially kicked in. Drop-Top Music will features just that; our favorite picks of yesterday’s and today’s greatest drop-top vehicles and our weekly music picks. This week’s vehicle is a 1970′s Chevy Corvette. The 1970′s were a time of great change for Corvette. While a late production start for the 1970 model year prevented the first cars from rolling off the assembly line until January, sales rebounded in 1971 and continued to climb. But at the same time, outside forces, such as the oil embargo and increasing government regulations, were having an impact on Corvette performance. The Convertible model was dropped at the end of the 1975 model year. The next Corvette Convertible would not be available until 1986. Corvette celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1978 and, in recognition of this event, was selected to be the Official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500.
