Mos Def : Ecstatic Movements : Motion Photos

mos-def-ecstatic-movements

When Mos Def stopped thru LA a few weeks ago Battalion Armour jumped at the chance to click some frames of him. There are very few MC’s that can rock a crowd in plaid pants and suspenders. Mos is one of them. What became of our visit with the mighty, was something we didn’t even think of until after.

This is a series of Ecstatic Movements capturing the energy of Mos Def in a way no one has ever done before. The method is old school, the experience is true school. In Ecstatic Movements the art and style of Mos Def is frozen in time, caught somewhere between a still photo and a full motion video. This series is set to a really fresh remix of History by Mos Def featuring Talib Kweli created by Scotty Nevers.

Them Crooked Vultures - Live Roseland - NYC 2/08/10

themcrookedvulturessmile

Sex! There I said it. I had mind-numbing, sweaty, bed-shaking, hot sex. In fact, I did it in public in front of a packed room of strangers. I even tried to prepare myself for it by getting some extra rest the night before. But it just wasn’t enough. Right now I’m breathing heavy, there are beads of sweat running down my neck, I feel light-headed and I’m weak in the knees. I need a cigarette and I don’t even smoke! It was orgasmic, magical and unbelievable all at the same time. Now before you start jumping to conclusions, take your mind outta the gutter and away from your crotch. See I was at last night’s Them Crooked Vultures show at Roseland in NYC and this is the only way that I can begin to describe how I felt as I exited into the cold February night. (more…)

lupe-fiasco-main

After just climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, Lupe Fiasco returns and quickly keeps his good deeds in play. Fiasco could help determine who sits in the controversial vacant Senate seat left by President Obama. The rapper will perform at a fundraiser for Chicago Urban League Chief Cheryle Jackson, who is one of five democratic hopefuls running for the seat in the February 2 primary. The seat was held by ousted Governor Rod. Blagojevich, who was impeached and removed from office twice for trying to sell Obama’s seat. Cheryle Jackson, who was Blagojevich’s press secretary during his initial inauguration, left the governor’s office to head up the Chicago Urban League. Lupe will perform at the Shrine Chicago in support of Jackson on January 28.

Brendan Benson - Live

LE POISSON ROGUE - NYC 12/04/09

Singer/songwriter Brendan Benson and his solo band rolled into NYC Friday night in support of Benson’s 4th solo album “My Old, Familiar Friend”. If you think that you’re not familiar with Brendan’s work, or that you’ve never heard of him, you’d be dead wrong. Benson is a member of The Raconteurs and shares songwriting duties with guitarist Jack White. While Benson’s solo stuff has been labeled as “power pop” his fans, his peers, and Brendan himself would passionately disagree. Although his influences include David Bowie, The Kinks, Elvis Costello, The Kinks and Todd Rundgren, make no mistake, Benson’s music is his own.  While this is my 2nd time catching Brendan live and I knew that I wouldn’t be disappointed, it’s always cool when you can turn someone else onto an artist they’re not familiar with. Life is all about experiences and opportunities, we reflect on the many good times, bad times and moments that we will never forget that occur as we travel through this lifetime of ours. Rock and Roll has been a influential part of our lives as much as Hip-Hop and R&B has, from the songs that made us smile, dance and make love, we love Rock & Roll and Rock & Roll loves us.

On November 29th, HBO presented The 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concert with performances by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Metallica, U2, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Friends, with additional performances by many other great talents at the arena of all arenas, Madison Square Garden. Hosted by Tom Hanks, all proceeds raised will go towards creating a permanent endowment for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and Museum. The Rock and Roll of Fame Foundation and Museum’s anniversary celebration will also extend beyond the concerts, with both a book and a deluxe DVD set to be released this fall.
