Climb the nearest hill and scream to the top of your lungs cause the Gorillaz are back we’re beyond excited.
The album is preceded by first single Stylo (featuring Mos Def and Bobby Womack) which will be available for download on January 26. Confirming “Stylo,” Murdoc Niccals twittered, “A leak! A leak! Plastic Beach has sprung a leak! One of those Russian pirates has put a bullet hole in my island! My single’s leaked! STYLO!”
Five years on from the release of Demon Days, Murdoc Niccals and gang return with Plastic Beach. The band have taken up residence, recording on a secret floating island deep in the South Pacific, a Plastic Beach HQ, made up of the detritus, debris and washed up remnants of humanity. This Plastic Beach is the furthest point from any landmass on Earth; the most deserted spot on the planet.
The Gorillaz’ return will be marked by a headline appearance at this year’s Coachella festival. The Sunday April 18 performance will be the first Gorillaz live spectacle on U.S. soil since the awe-inspiring Demon Days Live run in April 2006 at New York’s Apollo Theater.

Battalion Armour presents Beautiful Warriors 2, a series of six holiday videos featuring six women from six ethnic backgrounds posing to Louis Armstrong Remixed by Apple Juice Kid. These sexy videos were shot in HD by Tishaun Dawson as a gift of love for the holidays. The music behind Beautiful Warriors 2, a jazz meets hiphop mix, is also available as a free download. The seven song album produced by Apple Juice Kid includes Keyboards, Bass and Guitar by Kevin Timmons, and Drums/Percussion by Stephen Levitin. “I chose Louis Armstrong to provide the soundtrack to the Beautiful Warriors for the whimsical nature of his music and its ability to bridge cultural boundaries with expressions of love. It takes a special type of sound to create the right mood for this ethnically diverse cast of women. The only producer who could give Louis’ music a new twist while respecting the perfection was Apple Juice Kid, who I first met while creating a video for his critically acclaimed Miles Davis Remix album.”
Damian Marley and Nas held a special forum in Washington DC last week shedding light on their forthcoming album, and reflecting on the cultural traditions linking Hip-Hop with Africa and the Caribbean. The event was streamed live from National Geographic’s Grosvenor Auditorium, and featured a diverse panel of authors (Jeff Chang), emcees (Rakim), and, pioneers (DJ Kool Herc, DJ Red Alert, Big Youth). The entire discussion served as background for the concept of the Distant Relatives LP, which both men verified as set for March 16. When an audience member asked how artists could reach those in the streets without glorifying those lifestyles, Nas directed people to remain genuine and be wary of pretentiousness. “Just do you. If you ain’t been in the streets, what you know about it [from books and others], you will run out of it on the second song,” Nas explained. “I’m from the streets but it doesn’t stop there, that’s just my launching pad. I don’t think about how to reach anyone in particular. You can box yourself in by doing that.”
De La Soul is hands down one of the pioneer rap groups/trio that will always remain in Hip-Hop history. Mike Boogie does it once again with his latest mixtape, LE DA SOUL: 20 Years of De La Soul in collaboration with Terry Urban and clothing line Lemar and Dauley. Inspired by over 20 years of goodness, this mixtape unites the cream of the crop in Hip-Hop including old school legends (Phife, Camp Lo and Skillz), current hitmakers (Talib Kweli and Kardinal Offishall) and future stars (U-N-I, Tanya Morgan and Tabi Bonney) to remake their favorite De La classics.
We noticed the group had started working on a different sound, adding “a girl from brooklyn” - this was the birth of Neon Indian. A completely different - more chilled out, psychedelic ( and dare I say, hypnotic ) sound (compared to Vega).
Neon Indian has been on tour for the past few weeks (& will be until Jan of 2010) - with their album “Psychic Chasms” debuting last Tuesday as a top 10 album in iTunes “electronic” category.
We wanted to give you something you couldn’t hear on the album; a remix of Au Revoir Simone’s “Another Likely Story”. Enjoy!
Mick Boogie and Terry Urban once again unite with some of their favorite artists and producers to curate a unique remix project, this time remixing one of biggest sensations in the UK music scene, The Noisettes. Taking the acapellas from The Noisettes album Wild Young Hearts and merging them with the samples and ideas from Kanye’s sublime 808s and Heartbreaks, Mick, Terry and friends provide a completely unique and soulful take on the exciting music being created by Shingai and the gang.
Dame Dash makes his return to the music scene with his new project “Blakroc” which features some of the best lyrical assassins in Hip Hop; Mos Def delivering his smooth hooks and verses from Jim Jones, but the high profile collaborations don’t stop there. It turns out that the Blakroc Project is getting help from several more notable MCs (Raekwon, Q-Tip, and Pharaohe Monch to name a few) with production handled by rock band, The Black Keys. Look for the album to be released on Black Friday.
“Uprising” is the British rock trio’s first No. 1 single in the U.S. as it currently sits atop the Mediabase Alternative Rock radio chart. The track is the first single from the band’s new studio album The Resistance, which was produced by Muse and mixed by famed audio engineer Mark ‘Spike’ Stent. Muse, who performed at Sunday’s 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, will be special guests at select shows for U2, including two shows at Giants Stadium in New York, on September 23rd and 24th.
For the last few years, Muse, which is vocalist/guitarist Matt Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme, and drummer Dom Howard, have played to sell-out crowds throughout the U.S., Asia, Australia, and Europe in support of their previous album Black Holes and Revelations, which debuted at No. 9 on Billboard’s album chart in July 2006. In the U.S., the band–who hail from the tiny town of Teignmouth in Devon, England–performed at the Lollapalooza Festival, the Austin City Limits Music Festival, Las Vegas’s Vegoose Festival, and KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas and sold out New York City’s Madison Square Garden and The Forum in Los Angeles.
