What’s In Your Bag – Lisa Best

Growing up in Cambridge, Mass., a 14-year-old-Harvard-graduate-tutored Lisa Best asked her father if she could be a hippie when she grew up. His response? “No — because when those hippies grow up, their fathers will give them a job, and I can’t give you one.” Adhering to her father’s advice to go to school, learn lots, and create her own job, Best followed a self-carved path to success. Now the founder and designer of Pippi Hepburn, Best has translated her admiration for the “glamorous hippie” lifestyle into a beautifully unique collection of faux suede, faux leather and vegan handbags with a bohemian edge.

Name or Alias, City or Location:  Lisa Best, alias Pippi Hepburn  from Jersey City, NJ, USA

Identify all items in your bag:

1. Sunglasses bought in Mexico.  Complimented a girl in Prada glasses.  She felt so honored I noticed them.  Went right on the strip and bought these wannabees, for $16.

2. My wallet is always FAT.  It’s just receipts, alas.

3. Without my cellphone/agenda, I can hardly move.

4. Why is print getting smaller on food packages and vitamin bottles? Continue reading “What’s In Your Bag – Lisa Best” »

What’s In Your Bag – Kenza Chaouai

Kenza Chaouai is a true well rounded multi-tasker and cultured vagabond living in a body of a humble Canadian. I first came across Kenza via Facebook some two years ago and shortly after introduced to hearty magazine. I’ve always respected Kenza as a force to be reckoned with; a Hip Hop junkie, verbal martial artist and possibly Cam’ron’s and Dipset’s most favorite Canadian. I asked Ms. Chaouai to be our next guest, so take a quick trip into the life and bag of the ‘Heart of Communication’.

Name or Alias – City, State or Location: Kenza , Montreal x Los Angeles

Identify all items in your bag:

1. I grew up spending nearly every weekend hunting for antiques with my parents. At the time, I’d bring my tape player, listen to Boys II Men and pray for the day to be over. A decade later, I find myself spending my weekends buried under Salvation Army, American Way and Good Will goodies. This purse is one of my latest findings. I love it and in it are usually hidden the gems you see in the photo.

2. Netflix has brought me closer to my one and only celebrity crush, Law and Order SVU’s Christopher Meloni. Thanks to them, I’m only a mailbox away from love. Thanks Netflix!

What’s In Your Bag – Jason Ng

Jason Ng, Creative Direct to Cassius Eyewear; an independent eyewear brand, Cassius Eyewear is a modern extension of a look and attitude from the 1960’s and 70’s. Ng, was inspired by disparate influences as the Bauhaus movement, Brooklyn – N.Y. through the eyes of photographer Jamel Shabazz, a Mondrian painting executed in plain mathematical clarity, the organic geometry of a honeycomb wax cell and 20th century systems for scale and architectural proportion. Ng has been a friend of Limité for quite some time now and and we wanted to see what a man who lives in New Zealand and runs a eyewear brand carries on his day-to-day.

Name or Alias - City, State: Jason Ng – Auckland, New Zealand

Identify all items in your bag – [Bag] brown, full-grain leather that I designed and had custom made locally because I couldn’t find anything else out there that I liked and met my needs.

Pictured: 100% wool scarf, WeSC headphones, Comme des Garçons cologne, American Crew forming cream, Dermalogica skin wipes, Kiehl’s lip balm #1, Dermalogica lip treatment, Renu eye drops, Cassius Eyewear Mies sunglasses, Montblanc pen, Comme des Garçons zip wallet, Apple iPhone 4. What’s In Your Bag – James Nuttall

If you know anything about fashion and online retail shops, you’re well aware of London-based oki-ni and all the progressive designers, brands and their products that they’ve featured since they launched in September 2001. This year oki-ni celebrates its tenth anniversary. As years have passed oki-ni’s horizons have broadened, while the ethos of the brand has remained the same – you can still rely on their team to discover and break the inspiring brands and products. In honor of their tenth anniversary, I’ve invited James Nuttall, Marketing Manager to oki-ni to share the contents of his bag for this installment of “What’s In Your Bag”.

Name or Alias – City, State or Location: James Nuttall, London

Identify all items in your bag:

- North Face Purple Label Backpack
- Illesteva Sunglasses
- Supreme comb
- Keys on Master-piece keyring
- Peppersmith gum
- Helmut Lang wallet
- Business cards
- iPhone
- iPad
- COTEetCIEL iPad case

Why do you have these items in your bag? What do they mean to you?

The things I carry with me tend to be there because they’ll fulfill some short-term need. Although I do really like each item, and bought them initially for some combination of their use and aesthetic, there’s no great sentimentality. I guess I’m quite pragmatic. If anything, I often travel lighter.

Which are your absolute must-haves? What can’t you live without on a daily basis?

As long as I have my wallet, keys and phone, I can get by. But then again, I’m am always regretting something I’m missing.

What do you think these contents say about you?

That I’m either a flexible optimist or an awful planner.

What’s In Your Bag – Le Messie & Amanda Scully

Le Messie and Amanda Scully are the co-founders of FALSE, a successful brand of independent fashion anarchism. The brand has been functioning as an evolving propaganda to Le Messie’s visions on societies illusions with re-emerging themes of breaking down social bourgeois structural views laid on by the so called “mass elite”. FALSE is parent brand to Better Off Dead, Fallacy Of Rome, FALSE Sounds & Anti-Anti. I invited both Le Messie and Amanda to be our next guests for “What’s In Your Bag”. Check out what they both use on a daily basis to function in the 21st century.

Name or Alias – City, State or Location: Le Messie, Singapore

Identify all items in your bag: I don’t carry a bag so I went with what I carry on my body on a daily basis;

1. Polo Distressed Cargo Shorts
2. Gucci Belt
3. FALSE x Japanese Cartoon Sweater
4. Bottega Veneta Wallet
5. Super Flat Tops
6. Vintage Rolex 5513 on Nato
7. Anarcho “Low Profile Blk Studs” Cuff
8. FALSE iPhone Carrier Case
9. iPhone 4
10. FALSE O/A Rebels Re-Issue (Low Profile Blk Studs) Chucks

Why do you have these items on your body? What do they mean to you?

Mostly necessities, keeping me connected to the virtual realm… I spend a lot of my time in my own ethereal alternate reality… these material finite objects keep me grounded to reality. Continue reading “What’s In Your Bag – Le Messie & Amanda Scully” »

What’s In Your Bag – Matthew Waldman

You’ve heard the name of his brand, spend a few minutes trying to figure out how to tell the time on his products and always walk around with your sleeves rolled up just to show of his watches. That man is Matthew Waldman, creator of Nooka watches and accessories. Matt and I have been great comrades since the beginning of Limité and has been a genius that I’ve always respected and I asked Matt to be my guest for “What’s In Your Bag” to see what he carries on his daily to keep that brain churning.

Name or Alias – City, State or Location: Matthew Waldman, NYC

Identify all items in your bag
1. A blank-page sketchbook from Muji, 2. A box of different colored pens 3. A guitar pick 4. Lactaid!, 5. Felt iPad case 6. My iPad [Nooka music skin on back]. 7. iPhone speaker 8. lip balm 9. Passport 10. Super minty chewing gum 11. Grass fragrance, 12. Anti-puff eye roller.

Why do you have these items in your bag? What do they mean to you?
I work a lot, I travel a lot and I meet a lot of people – and the contents of my bag reflect the needs of a man on-the-go as well as telling you that I am lactose intolerant!. The Demeter fragrance is not what I wear daily [I wear the NOOKA scent I created most of the time] but rather to be able to control my environment when traveling [without getting into disgusting details, airplane air can get foul sometimes]. The overall feel of the items themselves screams global designer, and as that is the image I want to project. It all works well but really, it’s all practical stuff I need to use daily.

Which are your absolute must-haves? What can’t you live without on a daily basis?
Actually, I often think I don’t need any of this stuff on a daily basis. I kinda pack my bag as if a last minute trip is around the corner. I lug the iPad around but honestly get most work done on my iPhone. The real must have is the chewing gum – who wants to knock people out with their breath!

What do you think these contents say about you? This is the bag of a genius!

What’s In Your Bag – Jasmin Rodriguez

I’ve known Jasmin Rodriguez for quite some time now and won’t deny that I was immediately drawn to her sense of fashion. She’s made a name for herself in the world of pin-up and vintage womens fashion with her site vintagevandalizm.com and the many accolades she carries under belt. It was my honor to ask Jasmin to be our next guest on “What’s In Your Bag”. Get to know thy lady a bit closer.

Name or Alias – City, State or Location: Jasmin Rodriguez (Vintage Vandalizm) – NYC

Identify all items in your bag - Iphone 4G in Kate Spade Case, My Keys with Tous Key Chain, Moyna Sequined wallet, iPad and Zebra case, Canon Powershot SD1400 IS, Barbie Compact, Mac “Ruby Woo” lipstick, Vintage Cat eye glasses, Lipstick Pen and Pinup Napkins

Why do you have these items in your bag? What do they mean to you?

Without all of these items I wouldn’t be able to function. As a fashion blogger who is always on the go, I cannot live without my iPhone so I can communicate with my loved ones, my iPad and camera so I can document my adventures when I am away from home, and my Mac “Ruby Woo” lipstick and cat eye glasses that I wear almost all the time. They mean a lot to me, without them my life wouldn’t be this easy. Continue reading “What’s In Your Bag – Jasmin Rodriguez” »

What’s In Your Bag – Robin Esrock

Robin Esrock is one of the most interesting people I’ve met this year. A few stats on Esrock: former Travel Channel host, recently visited his 102-3 country (depending on date of post) and one of the most cultured people I’ve been happy to meet. I met Robin during my trip to Israel, he was a great additional wealth of knowledge to have in a country like such. As a world traveler, I invited Robin to be our next guest. Enjoy.

Name or Alias – City, State or Location

Robin Esrock sometimes known incorrectly as the Modern Gonzo Vancouver, British Columbia

Identify all items in your bag (shown in image).

The Bag:   Real men carry bags, because real men don’t load their pockets.  I recently upgraded from a Crumpler Maurice (ooh la la) to a Tillys Intrepid, which has been dipped in Scottish ear wax or something, making it impervious to just about anything.  It’s the right look for a travel writer too.

Wallet:  A gift from my fiance.  Made of stingray. I’m presuming it died of natural causes, and like to think it’s karma for the bastard that killed Steve Irwin.

iPhone:  I held out as long as I could, but when clients expect you to be online all the time, another baby smiles in heaven, and Steve Jobs counts his shekels.  It’s loaded with music, naturally.  Continue reading “What’s In Your Bag – Robin Esrock” »

What’s In Your Bag – William Yan

William Yan is a passion blogger and a street style photographer that I respect out of the many that claim to exist. As a photographer and friend, I’ve always respected Will for his talents, craft and fashion sense, it would be inappropriate if I didn’t invite Will to be my next quest for “What’s In Your Bag”. With this feature, Mr. Yan is the first to submit more than one photo to walk you through his goods. Enjoy.

Name or Alias – City, State or Location: William Yan – NYC

Identify all items in your bag:

* Jack Spade – Tote
* Canon 5D Mark II – Camera
* Domke – Red Protective Wrap Continue reading “What’s In Your Bag – William Yan” »

What’s In Your Bag – Pietra Lucia

I recently met the acquaintance of fashion student, Pietra Lucia who is attending the Art Institute in Philadelphia. I asked Pietra to partake in “What’s In Your Bag” and she was excited to show us what she carries on a daily basis and why.

Name or Alias – City, State: Pietra Lucia, Philadelphia, PA

Identify all items in your bag: iPhone and charger, Nivea Essentially Enriched lotion, L’Oreal Royal Red lipstick, InstaDri Rapid Red nail polish (this really dries in like 30sec girls…), Clinique No.04 Rootbeer superbalm, business cards, and Ai student ID.

Why do you have these items in your bag? What do they mean to you?

My iPhone – can’t live without, it’s my phone/iPod/camera/notebook/pad, I can’t function without my iPhone through a whole day. I have my lotion on me at all times because skin is very important to me. My red lipstick I have in case of a long day turns into a long night. A classic red lip is always right. I carry the red nail polish in case of emergency for a re-touch. Always have to keep your nails looking right. I love my Clinique lipbalm, it’s the best, it makes my lips looks fuller and it’s not too sticky and it really does soften your lips. I always have business cards on me because you never know when you may run into someone that may ask for it. I keep my student ID on me even on days when I don’t have classes because I run around the center of the city, Philadelphia and I always have school stuff to work on so if I have time, I’ll swing by the campus.
