The story behind this installation and the relevance for Natural Selection lies within the brand’s name and their connection with evolution. ‘Denim Dissection’ symbolises the label’s notion of experimentation, and with this, their desire to constantly evolve and innovate. Corduroy’s vertical ribs are called wales, from the Anglo-Saxon walu, meaning “to mark with stripes,” and their thickness can determine how you wear the cloth: Sixteen ribs to an inch is known as pinwale, and it’s great for suits; eight ribs to an inch is a wide wale and is good for casual trousers. Above that and things get seriously chunky. Also of note: The more wales to an inch, the louder the characteristic thwummp noise they make when rubbing together.

“We all deserve a break but sometimes we just can not make it to Tahiti, Greece or Florence. That is where the “weekender” comes in. Treat yourself to a long weekend in the hustle of a big city, cool breezes at the beach or tranquility of the mountains. The spontaneous long weekend was the inspiration behind the SLVDR Spring 11 collection. We offer designs that will allow you to throw a few key pieces into your Boston bag and get out. No rolling “carry on” bags allowed. You do not want to look like one of those uptight business travelers- even though you may be one in real life.”
