Today, The Brooklyn Circus is having an event in its San Francisco shop to celebrate the style and function of the Red Wing Heritage Iron Ranger. One of Red Wing Heritage’s most classic styles, Iron Ranger boots were built with a double layer of leather over the toe to provide miners in Minnesota’s Mesabi Iron Range with an extra measure of safety. The heel pocket, a boot feature designed to provide extra support, was moved to the outside of the boot. This design eliminated a seam and provided a smooth and comfortable one-piece surface on the inside of the boot.

With the buzz of the Converse and Gorillaz footwear collaboration making its way through the footwear forums of the internet. The Gorillaz’s Murdoc Niccals has resurfaced, and this time to announce the track with their mystery collaborators for the Three Artists, One Song song.

“After nearly a year underground (or lurking in the dark corners of who-knows-where), the Gorillaz’s Murdoc Niccals has resurfaced and is again wreaking havoc — this time over the airwaves. It seems in fact that, following a dramatic exit from the Gorillaz’s Plastic Beach HQ, the miserable despot Murdoc Niccals has created yet another pirate radio station and is now sending transmissions from a brand new mystery location. What’s this all about? Tune in to the weekly broadcasts to find out.”

With a nod to vintage military footwear, this style is a contemporary take on the adidas BW sneaker – the official shoe of the German Armed Forces – and sees the continuation of the partnership between adidas and the Canadian workwear specialists Ransom. The trainer is made from a soft suede upper and features a large white leather toe cap, balanced by a tonal leather tab on the base of the heel, which has the Ransom logo embossed onto it. This clean and classic style also features a thick vulcanised rubber sole and tonal laces.

Drawing on the popular hiking theme from the past few seasons, New Balance once again re-vamp their non-running 710 style for spring/summer. A classic hybrid, the 710 is a rugged and functional design that, due to its hiking detail, is always an attractive option. Crafted with uppers from soft reddish-brown leather, the 710 is panelled with a nylon toe-box and tongue. It has a high, padded ankle that offers welcome support, and is topped with D-ring hiker eyelets and a flat hiking lace.

VBS.TV, the production unit dedicated to creating online news and original content for the newly revamped VICE.com, sends its teams around the world to investigate the dangerous, absurd and bizarre, creating the investigative series from the sewers of Bogota to the ruins of Chernobyl. A multitude of loafers go flying and blue suede desert boots walk the confines of a wooden crate in this short from filmmaker Marcus Gaab. Showcasing No_Code, the new capsule collection from Italian luxury house Tod’s, the film features all four paired-down styles in a range of seasonal colors. Inspired by Dazed & Confused magazine’s visionary co-founder Jefferson Hack, No_Code’s versatile but timeless designs are intended for both men and women. “The collection is really in sync, but each shoe is also wholly unique so I wanted to create something that played up each shoe’s specific characteristics,” says Gaab of his decision to display the collection in an array of animated scenes. Designed with the cosmopolitan nomad in mind, the collection is lightweight and crafted in Tod’s signature quality leathers and suede to transition easily from casual daytime use to more formal nocturnal scenarios. “There’s an easiness about the styles, they are minimal and can work in different contexts,” adds Gaab. “They can be sleek and simple, but also a bit more pop and fun, so it’s all about seeing them from different perspectives.”

Combining soft nappa leather and waxed suede, this high-top version of Maison Martin Margiela’s replica sneaker is exceptional in both the quality of its materials and its rich rust color.

Maintaining the classic 1970s replica shape, the sneaker is crafted primarily from leather, with soft suede detail and trim. The sneaker features a padded ankle and is fully-lined in soft lamb leather for comfort. Built onto a classic gum sole, it is finished with a contrasting beige lace and Margiela’s signature white stitch on the heel.

After three successful collaborative collections, Converse and Marimekko announce the continuation of their partnership for Spring 2012. In the Converse ♥ Marimekko Spring 2012 collection the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star, Chuck Taylor All Star PJ and Jack Purcell Helen shoes get a update of five signature prints from two distinguished Marimekko master designers Maija Isola and Annika Rimala.

Behind four of the popular patterns of the collection is Maija Isola, one of the most productive designers in the 60-year-long history of Marimekko. One of her most recognizable designs, Unikko (poppy) originally from 1964, was born as protest after the company had publicly announced they would never print a floral pattern. This upcoming spring, this lauded classic comes into bloom in the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe along another icon pattern, Lokki (seagull) from 1961. This print with its distinctively uneven edges will give a nice pop of color also to the Jack Purcell Helen shoe suchlike the gleeful Appelsiini (orange). This lush print created in 1950 was inspired by the delicious bargain oranges that the designer ate during her stay in Spain. Besides Lokki and Appelsiini, the more subtle Muija (woman) pattern from 1968 will also give a fresh look to the Jack Purcell Helen shoe in a yellow coloring kicking off the season even before the first spring days are here.

In addition to these patterns, the geometric Kameka print designed by Annika Rimala will come to life in the Chuck Taylor All Star PJ shoe. Originally from 1964, the pattern draws inspiration from the hand-tooled carvings that the designer saw in Mayan temples in Mexico. In Spring 2012, the shoe is featured in two color ways, electric blue and pink, giving a fun twist to this otherwise timeless design.
