Today, The Brooklyn Circus is having an event in its San Francisco shop to celebrate the style and function of the Red Wing Heritage Iron Ranger. One of Red Wing Heritage’s most classic styles, Iron Ranger boots were built with a double layer of leather over the toe to provide miners in Minnesota’s Mesabi Iron Range with an extra measure of safety. The heel pocket, a boot feature designed to provide extra support, was moved to the outside of the boot. This design eliminated a seam and provided a smooth and comfortable one-piece surface on the inside of the boot.

The Rocksmith team headed down to New Orleans for a spring 2012 lookbook video, shot by Lazlo and featuring the team of premiere skate boutique Madsoulz. Their chant of “Swag Gumbo” was exactly what the Rocksmith were thinking for inspiration, and they managed to score the video to Clams Casino. The video features a clean selection including the Rock Lauren woven, Academy oxford hooded button up, Signature raw Japanese denim, and Heritage cotton twill Ninjas jacket.

With the buzz of the Converse and Gorillaz footwear collaboration making its way through the footwear forums of the internet. The Gorillaz’s Murdoc Niccals has resurfaced, and this time to announce the track with their mystery collaborators for the Three Artists, One Song song.

The winner of the H&M Design Award 2012 was announced yesterday as Stine Riis, a 28 year old graduate from the London College of Fashion. She was revealed as the global winner at a special catwalk show at Stockholm’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, where Stine presented her winning collection. Stine wins €50,000, and the chance to have around fifteen pieces from her collection sold in selected H&M stores in United Kingdom, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Sweden and The Netherlands in September. Stine was chosen by a grand jury which included fashion designer Christopher Kane, noted fashion journalists Hilary Alexander and Kristopher Arden Houser, fashion blogger Susie Lau, H&M’s creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch and H&M’s head of design, Ann-Sofie Johansson

“I am still overwhelmed. Showing at Stockholm’s Mercedes-Benz fashion week has been such a great experience. I can’t believe so many people came to see my collection! This award gives me the confidence and financial back-up I need to pursue my dream of building my own brand. I couldn’t have imagined a better start to my career as a designer,” says Stine Riis, winner of the H&M Design Award 2012.

“Stine Riis impressed us all with the maturity and modernity of her work. Her collection was so complete, and so well finished. It was such a sophisticated show, and such an exciting occasion. I am proud that Stine is the first winner of the H&M Design Award,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M Head of Design.

“Stine Riis took the top prize with a polished, well-cut collection of strict tailoring in contrasting materials including leather, wool, metallic and bonded fabrics. Her silhouette was lean but flowing, and particularly effective was her use of colour: a slim blue and orange bi-colour top, for example, or a blue coat stamped with white,” says Hilary Alexander, fashion journalist.

Stine Riis is a designer from Copenhagen who studied for her BA at the London College of Fashion in the United Kingdom. She called her final collection “Decadence & Decay”, and describes her style as “tailored future elegance”. Stine puts great importance into the creative process and wants the construction of the garments to be part of the design, while also making clothing that is both wearable and covetable.

Meanwhile, the winner of the H&M Design Award People’s Prize was announced yesterday as Anne Bosman. The prize has been decided by visitors to the H&M Design Award website, who have been voting since January 27 for their favourite collection. Anne Bosman receives a month’s internship at Christopher Kane’s design studio in London, giving him the chance to gain invaluable experience with one of fashion’s hottest designers.

The decision to release the AW11 Fred Perry/Amy Winehouse Collaboration by Amy’s family after her tragic death in August 2011 and the commitment to launch the SS12 collection has proved a fitting tribute to the iconic singer with both ranges well received by fans and Amy aficionados. The SS12 was the last collection that Amy worked on and she again designed a range of clothes that was very typically Amy; sexy, stylish and individual.

Referencing her love of vintage 1950’s Americana and art deco Miami the collection includes exclusive shirting and dress in a print featuring Cadillac’s, jukeboxes and other retro-objects.

The range continues to include staple Amy product; the knitted silk Fred Perry shirt available in pale blue and black and the argyle sweater dress refreshed with a lower v-neck line. Key pieces include the cropped Harrington jacket with ruched sleeves and high waisted turn-up shorts, both including the Amy jukebox print on the inner lining. To finish off the look accessories include a vintage frame bag, bowling bag, slim leather belt and 100% silk scarf which each incorporate the Amy jukebox print. Continuing to reference Miami art deco style, the collection’s color palette includes bright pastel colors such as pink mist, pale blue and raspberry sorbet combined with the Amy classic of black and white.

With a nod to vintage military footwear, this style is a contemporary take on the adidas BW sneaker – the official shoe of the German Armed Forces – and sees the continuation of the partnership between adidas and the Canadian workwear specialists Ransom. The trainer is made from a soft suede upper and features a large white leather toe cap, balanced by a tonal leather tab on the base of the heel, which has the Ransom logo embossed onto it. This clean and classic style also features a thick vulcanised rubber sole and tonal laces.
