Concrete House Plan by Architects Brauning

A prime example of forward-thinking, modern German architecture, this concrete house plan by Architects Brauning is situated in a dense urban center, but its unusual look and unique flow are totally out of this world. Concrete, steel, wood and an expansive glass wall make their way around this home’s irregular shape, offering awesome views of the outdoors. Inside, this modern house spreads living areas across four levels, which are open to one another but still provide a level of privacy. The architects stayed away from a traditional layout of walls and rooms, opting rather for an open-concept house plan that allows for a connection between these conventionally separate living spaces. The four-tiered design lets residents appreciate the modern yet cozy fireplace from any room. Below the living spaces are two lower levels, housing the bathroom with a gorgeous stone bathtub, and the master bedroom.

(Video) Antenna Designs Workspaces for Knoll

As a designer, writer, artist, business man and whatever other title folks have given me, I’ve developed a fascination about behind-the-scenes footage and documentaries on the process of strategy and execution; from fashion to industrial design lies the beauty of “how we made this”.

Coolhunting have an interesting video where they interview the founders of Antenna Design. In the mini-documentary, the makers describe how they have created a new range of office furniture for Knoll. Benjamin Pardo the SVP of design at the company says in the clip that its important today to create environments that supports different activities taking place across an open office plus the design of space that allows for both privacy and social interaction.

Ballerine Bathtub

Ballerine is a creative combination of a single bathtub and a free standing shower cabin by Designer Gustaw Lange . The integrated shower head functions as a bath faucet and a shower disc. It’s installed on a flexible arm which easily adjusts to any height and allows you to set the intensity of the water stream and direction. The flexible arm is constructed of an adjustable nylon-silicon surface. Once activated, the frame stiffens like a backbone. We’re still trying to figure out how to keep the water from getting all over the floor… but sexy none the less.

Emmanuelle Moureaux: Acrylic Furniture

emmanuelle-moureaux-furniture-1

French-born and Tokyo-based designer Emmanuelle Moureaux has created the ‘Shibafu Table’. 56 slender colored acrylic sticks are randomly arranged into a piece of transparent acrylic, creating an aesthetic, reminiscent of a colorful Shibafu or lawn. The sticks support the transparent acrylic panel, while refracting and reflecting light as if they were soaking under water. The colored sticks appear and disappear, and even seem to bend at times depending on the angle at which you view them. Continue reading “Emmanuelle Moureaux: Acrylic Furniture” »
