Waterfront House Plans in British Columbia

Award-winning Canadian architect Keith Baker (KB Design) designed this waterfront house plan in Victoria, British Columbia. Made of stone, steel, wood and glass, this 5,299-sq.-ft. outdoor living house plan extends its living areas into the great outdoors. Visible through expansive windows and from the home’s many outdoor entertaining areas, ocean and forest have inspired this natural house. The terrace decks boast waterfront vistas that are a private piece of paradise. Massive windows soak the indoors with sunlight, adding extra warmth to the rich cherry wood throughout. Exposed wood posts and beams add a cottage-chic flair to every room. Inside and out, this contemporary luxury home has curves and angles that are as fun to look at as they are to live in.

Sharif Abraham Architects: Clifton Hill House

Australian practice Sharif Abraham architects has completed ‘Clifton Hill House’, a single family dwelling located in Victoria, Australia. Generated by experiential site lines and local setback requirements, the sculptural arrangement of forms mediates the existing structure with a garden. A combination of clerestory windows and glass walls pierce the concrete facade illuminating the living spaces. A continuous light beam emanates from the ceiling guiding inhabitants away from the addition and into the original home.

Family House In Pavilniai Regional Park

This is the story of a home inside of a home: Once upon a time a banker and an antique book collector bought a piece of land where sat a lonely, yellow abode. The new owners began stripping away the yellow paint as their first task, which revealed to their great surprise some ancient and valuable Vilnius bricks. They also discovered that originally, this little building was a cannon foundry. Because of the significant historical value, they decided to completely restore the old building and bring it back to life. Enter Architectural Bureau G.Natkevicius & Partners. Because it was a little too small for the dwelling they had in mind, they decided to also build a home around it, made of mostly glass, to show off and protect their prize, which also provided them with amazing 360 degree views of the fantastic landscape. They attached a wonderful staircase to the outer part of the old building to access the new levels they’d created. The result of their creativity, planning and hard work, was a stylish modern home with a rustic inner flair. And that is the story of a home inside of a home, in which they probably will live happily ever after.

Concrete Interior Design by AFGH

Incorporating concrete in interior design can have quite an impact. This home shows how using a lot of this basic material, concrete can simultaneously give a home a polished and yet, unrefined look. The straight lines of the slabs give this space a streamlined, contemporary look, while the rawness of it softens those lines and brings in a charming imperfect quality which seems to say ‘relax, we’re not that serious’ – basically making it feel more comfortable. Wood is also a bit part of the interior design and takes the comfort level further. So together, wood and concrete make a nice pair, balancing each other out. Also, take a moment to appreciate the bathroom. Almost fully concrete combined with the right lighting scheme, the space is warm, raw and streamlined, which stays right on cue with the rest of this home.

The Altamira Residence

Designed by Los Angeles-based architecture firm Marmol Radziner, this beachfront home is as exciting at its surrounding landscape. The Altamira Residence is a 15,500-sq.-ft. build including the main house, study, guest house and a garage. Set on a 20-acre site along the coastal edge of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, this unusual design fronting the Pacific is clearly inspired by the oceanfront. The undulating roof follows the natural lines of the waves and the local landscape. Interiors too echo the natural environment, featuring materials like wood and stone, and lots of windows, each framing a different but equally amazing view. This interesting curved roof house is probably just as much a draw to the area and the sun and surf.

Exposed Brick House by AABE

This exposed brick house by German architecture firm AABE is a lesson in contrasting styles, materials and aesthetics. Architect Bruno Erpicum took the helm of this Dusseldorf warehouse conversion, transforming “ruins” into something truly spectacular. From the outside, the brick exterior home is enclosed in a glass wall, a creative treatment that hints at the curiosities you’ll find inside. Building on much the same palette of materials, the architect combines industrial-chic elements like concrete and brick, with ultra-modern pieces like the glossy-white built-in storage and closets (which also serve as dividers for the open-concept home). Furnishings – which are as intriguing as the home itself! – are few and far between, allowing the focus to remain on the loft and its innate architectural features. Outside, a modern outdoor living room is an extension of the style and space found inside.
