The Argentario Golf Resort & Spa: A Modern Take on Tuscany

The lobby of Argentario Resort

Visions of a Tuscan vacation often include time spent in a charming old stone farmhouse surrounded by grape vines and olive trees. The Argentario Golf Resort & Spa offers a sleeker, more modern way to visit this beautiful part of Italy.

The resort has a contemporary style that is quite unique in rustic Tuscany. The owner, Augusto Orsini, wanted to create something “new and fresh, that would show the region’s most progressive side.” The result is 73-room dragonfly-shaped structure that features a flaxen limestone façade. Guests check in through the stunning reception area, where a spiral staircase winds upwards into a glass dome. Guestrooms have an eclectic personality in keeping with the feel of the resort and were designed by Andrea Fogli.

The Argentario Peninsula, Maremma Tuscany

Just 90 minutes from Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, the lush Argentario peninsula is surrounded by clear water and beautiful beaches. Located in southern  Tuscany, the area is known as Maremma — and is still relatively unexplored by European tourists and by Americans. Area activities include sailing, diving, fishing, golf, hot springs, wine tasting, dining, cycling and horseback riding. Day trips can be easily organized to Rome, Pisa, Siena and Florence and other historic towns or visited by rented car.

The Argentario’s stylish accommodations

The Locker Private Cottage

The resort has 73 rooms and a private cottage, all with terraces and golf course or landscape views. From contemporary to more eclectic, they each have their own individual feel. Looking to stay with a group? The Locker Private Cottage has three bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen where you can cook Tuscan food from the markets found in every town. Instead of a farmhouse rental for a larger group, this is a fine alternative.

Golfers will enjoy playing at the resort’s 18-hole championship course, surrounded by Mediterranean greenery. Looking to improve your game? Book a lesson with Emanuele Canonica, winner of the Johnnie Walker championship at Gleneagles in 2005. Other athletic options include tennis courts and running paths.

The Espace Wellness Center features a soothing environment where guests can choose from the relaxing to the invigorating. Choose from the bio-sauna, Kneipp pool, massage rooms, hi-tech gym and indoor and outdoor pools. There’s even a MediSpa offering aesthetic and naturopathic treatments.
