Local Artist Spotlight: Selena Mars

New York City, the indispensable mecca for artists all over the world, has seen just about every creative soul trying to make it out here.  And we at Limité Magazine were fortunate enough to have spent one lovely Spring afternoon with a luminous, local artist who shared with us the path toward her creative journey while making it both as a singer/songwriter and an actress.

Selena Mars’ sojourn to New York City started out as a fateful trip to participate in a singing contest at the tender age of 13 .  The experience eventually became a goal of all sorts to make it here successfully as a performer/musician/actress.

But her journey, like with almost all transplants trying to find their luck and laurels here in the city, has been fraught with challenges and a couple of detours that somehow still led her to her ultimate goal.  And sure enough when opportunities knocked on her door, Selena made sure to not just answer them, but she opened the door really wide and greeted them with a high note.

The video below has Selena discussing to us about art, her passion for traveling, and all the exciting projects she had worked on.  Wonderfully enough, a couple of weeks after this video was shot, Selena had the golden opportunity to collaborate with Bob Wootton (a.k.a. Johnny Cash’s longtime guitarist) on a film/music concept project called, “Light of Day.”

She also recently was a guest on Harlem World Radio where she was interviewed to a backdrop of 18 songs she chose to illustrate the soundtrack to her life.  More exciting projects keep popping up for her, that’s why Limité Magazine proudly honors her as our Local Artist Spotlight of the season.
