Facebook introduces Same Sex Marriage Icons

Same sex relationships have come a long way in the past few weeks, with some of America’s biggest brands updating their imagery in support of same sex marriage and gay relationships. Last month, Apple updated its iPhone emoticons to include same sex relationships, and Oreo created its gay pride cookie. Facebook has rolled out same-sex icons to indicate marriage, with users able to choose from a two-groom or two-bride cake-topper symbol.

The first person to use the new icon was Jeremy Hooper, a gay activist and author of the book If It’s A Choice. He updated his Timeline (shown here) over the weekend with a photo of his marriage to Andrew Shulman. Then Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, who married Sean Eldridge on Saturday, followed suit.
