A closed school becomes a luxury apartment building! That alone will make a few eyebrows raise and wrangle some nerves but throw in attention to vegan and vegetarian lifestyles and you may have a winner.
The Madison Jackson, a new apartment building opening on the Lower East Side in a former public school, will offer residents a range of luxury amenities that support a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle. This community built around a common belief system will include access to 24-hour vegetarian room service, an on-site juice bar, and organic laundry.
Residents will also be able to join the private Madison Jackson Club on the building’s garden floor, which offers a heated pool, spin room, spa services, nutritional counseling, and Jivamukti yoga (which emphasizes animal rights, veganism, environmentalism, and social activism). DNAinfo reports that the apartments are expected to sell for around $800 a square foot and the building’s developer says he has a waiting list of 300 potential buyers.
