Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini presented the fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2013 menswear collection that fused a combination theme of “La Dolce Vita” and the Mediterranean seaside with a bit of Anglo-American flare.
In the show notes, Giannini speaks of her desire to use strong color to evoke next summer, adding that the new collection allows the Gucci man “to rediscover his chic Mediterranean side.”
Next summer’s Gucci palette is a array of Mediterranean energy from sea blue and green to turquoise, terracotta, raspberry, orange, lemon and pistachio. These bright colors can be used for a suit, a pair of pants or a sweater. When mixed together, they create cheerful prints for silk shirts and slacks.
The new Gucci blazer in cotton jersey is double breasted and fitted around the waist to create the slim effect favored by 1960s “Dolce Vita” playboys. Trousers are classic but on the skinny side. Loosely knit pullovers, net-stitched polo shirts and printed foulard shirts add casual chic. Summer raincoats, a popular look on the current Milan runway, also come in bright shades.
The latest Gucci bag styles range from the canvas shoulder bag to the crocodile weekend bag.
The leitmotif of the warm weather collection is the classic Gucci loafer. In white, black or bright color, strictly worn without socks, it accessorized every outfit in the show.
Everyone knows that you should treat toys with respect. Otherwise they come to life during the night, and rip your face off while you’re sleeping, right? Jason Freeny clearly didn’t get this memo. A former toy designer himself, Freeny didn’t think children would be his target market for his half-dead creations.
The Manhattan based artist buys 18 inch Lego toys, cuts them in half, and then creates their innards with painted foam. Documenting the process via his Facebook page, Freeny creates these interesting dissected figures from a range of toys.
Designer Chris Hammersley created the BMW Venture concept that transforms from a urban-community subcompact to sporters with a simple press of a button. Once retracted, it’s perfect for taking on any city by extending the swing arms and front wheels to give you a wider stance and added stability. Being only a concept, don’t get too excited and start adding the Venture to your Christmas list. No word from Hammersley or BMW if this will actually make it into production.
First looking at these pics, you’d assume these are locations for chase scenes in horror movies but in fact, the Neon Museum is where signs go to die. Since the ’90s, unwanted neon signs from Las Vegas casinos and motels have made their way to the graveyard with 150 pieces stretched across two acres. With dearly departed signs dating back to the 1930s, the Boneyard offers an amazing insight into the history of the city of artificial lights (and also includes some pretty great typography and design).
Celebrating their 75th anniversary, iconic eyewear brand Ray-Ban introduces their Ambermatic Collection. Additionally, this dedicated range will be accompanied by a special anniversary campaign highlighting real-life stories of individuals who dared to defy convention.
