The Volkswagen Aqua is a hovercraft concept created by Yuhan Zhang, a 21 year old designer from China. Yuhan just graduated with honors from Xihua University with a degree in Industrial Design. The Volkswagen Aqua is designed to cope with the wide variety of terrain which covers China. From the lakes, rivers and coastal waters, to the roads, wetlands and snow and ice. The concept was shortlisted in the CDN Car Design Awards China, based on the brief entitled simply; “Chinese off-road vehicle” by Volkswagen.
Like most hovercraft, the Volkswagen Aqua uses more than one engine. The primary motor, which is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, is used to drive the main fan which inflates the skirt around the vehicle and raises the Aqua just above the ground. The fans at the rear of the vehicle are powered by individual electric motors to provide forward thrust and directional control.
Inspired by the traditional red, white and black, Manchester United will play in a newly designed home kit for the 2011/2012 soccer season. Designed to maximize performance and minimize environmental impact with Nike’s groundbreaking recycled polyester, the new shirt is made with a necessary sweat-wicking fabric. The shirt is lighter than ever with a contoured body shape that allows for fluid movement. The body of the shirt is traditional red with a white crafted crew neck collar with a central black stripe to replicate the design of the club’s iconic bar scarf. The bar aesthetic has previously appeared on the shirts of legendary United sides of the past, including the 1977 and 1985 FA Cup winners, and on the back of the 2008 Champions League and Barclays Premier League winners.

Originally launched as the ASICS X-Caliber in the early 1980s, this iconic sneaker from Onitsuka Tiger was eventually given a name swap and transformed into the design that it is today. Building off a partnership that began roughly eight years back, Onitsuka and Berlin-based Koi Klub produce a new colorway in the X-Caliber. This time around the shoe is given the denim treatment, with a raw faded look complimented by suede and double-hued lacing. The color choices and materials were purposely chosen to “not match” each other.
The aftermath of a school shooting has been explored many times in films like Elephant (2003), Bowling for Columbine (2002), and American Gun (2005). Filmmakers have delved into the psyche and motivations of the shooters or the grief of the victims’ families, but few have truly examined the dual pain and shame felt by the families of the shooters. Beautiful Boy is the cinematic emotional journey of a married couple on the verge of separation that finds out its only son committed a mass shooting at his university before taking his own life.
Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) and Maria Bello (A History of Violence) star as Bill and Kate Carroll, a typical American suburban couple whose marriage is quietly imploding. Their son, played by Kyle Gallner (Jennifer’s Body), calls one night, and his parents do that thing that most families do — they don’t share what is really on their minds. Instead, they say the safe, meaningless canned phrases meant for comfort, and then hang up the phone and ignore that nagging feeling that something isn’t quite right. The next day, Bill and Kate learn their son took loaded guns onto campus and killed fellow students and teachers before killing himself. From that point on, the two must deal with their grief, the media attention, awkward pity from friends and relatives, and the damning legacy of their only son.

Referencing Margiela themes of deconstruction and imperfection this handmade suede trainer has a graduated finish with patent black on the outside of the foot moving to grey suede on the inside. Made from premium leather, the trainer features the signature Margiela white stitch on the ankle. Interestingly, the trainer has a label on the footbed detailing its heritage. It is a replica of a 1970s Austrian sports shoe, originally made from lambskin and calf leather.
Korg announces a new iPad® App, produced as part of an ongoing collaboration with globally popular virtual band (and real-life project of British musicians Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett) Gorillaz. The group’s latest LP, The Fall, is particularly notable for being recorded entirely on Albarn’s Apple iPad. Among the apps used was Korg’s best-selling iElectribe, and to commemorate the album’s release, Korg and Gorillaz have teamed up to offer the special iElectribe Gorillaz Edition. A limited run of 10,000 units has been released at a very special price of $9.99 U.S. Creative and fun, this app was designed for Gorillaz fans, as well as modern musicians everywhere.
The Korg iElectribe is a virtual analog beatbox for the iPad; sound creation is easy, fun and intuitive – just as on a vintage analog synthesizer. Users simply choose an instrument part and touch the 16-step sequencer to quickly build a groove. The aggressive sound, unique functionality and intuitive beat-building style of the Korg Electribe series made it a favorite of Gorillaz for The Fall.
While retaining the intuitive beat-making features of the iElectribe, the special Gorillaz Edition has been customized to generate samples from the The Fall, allowing the user to create music in a wide variety of musical styles. The iElectribe Gorillaz Edition features a unique design and synthesizer engine including 128 new sounds created by Gorillaz and 64 ready-to-use pre-programmed patterns by the sound team of Gorillaz, producer Stephen Sedgwick, and Korg.
