Located in the city-center of Maastricht, this renovated 15th century monastery of the Crutched Friars offers you a synthesis of a veritable Gothic exterior with a dressed-down modern interior. Many innovative solutions for structural challenges (e.g. a glass elevator connecting the church to the monastery area) only confirm the notion that the sobriety of modern style forms a perfect match for a late-medieval architectural expression of religious virtue. A BATHING APE linked up with Dr. Martens to produce an exciting shoe collaboration for Spring Summer 2011. The Dr Martens shoe will feature as part of the BAPE URSUS range, designed by long term BAPE collaborator “Tet”, Creative Director of Japanese brand WTAPS. The collaboration is based on a vintage saddle shoe from the Dr. Martens back catalog, revived and produced with a characteristic BAPE twist, featured in three exclusive colorways; grey/burgundy, grey/black, and grey/navy.
The saddle shoe was originally popularized by ‘Bobby Soxers’, the original trend-setting teenagers in 50′s America and so exudes a retro collegiate feel that complements the current trend for Letterman jackets and the Ivy League look. Bobby Soxers commonly wore the shoes in a white/blue color combination and were later adopted by ‘Greezers’ in harder colorways. This new style for Doctor Marten’s is being launched exclusively with BAPE URSUS prior to Dr. Marten’s releasing their own colorways and styles later in the season.
Priced at £230, stockists include www.bape.com and BAPE LONDON store.
