The Evolution of The Levi’s Trucker Jacket

Levi’s transports us to a world made entirely out of denim. Every surface is a different shade of indigo. The richness and complexities of this fabric give it dimension and life. Front and center is the Levi’s Trucker Jacket, made strong from riveted denim since 1967. But this is only the beginning. Like The Trucker, which has recently been reinterpreted by a series of designers from across the USA, this world seamlessly transforms as we travel from San Francisco, the home of Levi Strauss and Co., to New York City, Los Angeles, Alabama, Oregon and Washington. Each new place, the inspiration for the new evolutions on the iconic denim jacket, is veneered with a different fabric contributed by Levi’s esteemed collaborators. Railroad stripes from Opening Ceremony. Dark denim and leather from Stussy and Neighborhood. Black wool from Billy Reid. A Native American-inspired Jacquard from Pendleton. And, of course, Filson’s famous oiled Tin Cloth. Each new landscape, alive and textured, is a testament to the universality of the trucker, it’s ever-adaptable nature, and the many places it is put to work.

About the Trucker Jacket
First built out of heavy duty riveted denim in 1967. Later constructed from corduroy, leather and canvas. Lined with wool or sherpa for colder weather. Customized, cut-off, and worn-in by workers everywhere. The Levi’s Trucker jacket endures. This year, Levi’s collaborated with a selection of today’s pioneering brands and designers to explore the iconic garment, building it in new fabrications, adding functional elements and tweaking the details. All jackets have been designed and hand built by craftsman in the USA. Although many purists would argue that the Trucker is best in the traditional rigid denim, then worn in over decades of hard work, these special edition jackets prove that there are still many more places to go with the Trucker.
