When it comes to providing help to those in need, you can always count on musicians to do their part. To help communities impacted by the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, some of today’s hottest bands have joined together with Global Green USA to release a benefit compilation entitled Gasoline Rainbows, out todaythrough Roark Records. Gasoline Rainbows is available exclusively via iTunes as a digital download.
The compilation was brought together by actress Sophia Bush and actor Austin Nichols, most well known for their roles on the television show One Tree Hill. Sophia and Austin traveled, with Global Green, to Grand Isle, Louisiana, to visit the beaches and see the devastation wrought by the Deepwater Horizon spill first hand. Moved by the stretches of oil along the once-beautiful beaches, as well as the devastation to the wildlife, they decided to help in whatever way they could, and this compilation is a direct result of that. Over the last few weeks, 30 Seconds To Mars has been seeding clips of their 13 min short film “Hurricane”. Call me a weirdo or freak but I love this video, here are a few words to describe what you’re about to see: it was sort of insane, too: a nightmarish rumination on sex and violence and secret fetishes that not only featured plenty of fight scenes (and nudity), but didn’t shy away from politically loaded imagery. Among the ones that made the cut was one in which a rabbi, priest and imam are seen tossing their holy prayer books onto a blazing pyre in a dank alley and another in which Leto battled a leather-masked foe in a courtyard littered with American-flag-draped coffins. (Spoiler alert, someone you know ends up in one of those coffins.)
Vince Vaughn and Kevin James headline an all-star comedy from director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer about a man who finds out that what you don’t say to a friend is just as important as what you do. Jennifer Connelly, Winona Ryder, Channing Tatum and Queen Latifah join them in The Dilemma, a story of how far you can bend a brotherly bond before it snaps. Since college, confirmed bachelor Ronny (Vaughn) and happily married Nick (James) have been through thick and thin. Now partners in an auto design firm, the two pals are vying to land a dream project that would launch their company.
With Ronny’s girlfriend, Beth (Connelly), and Nick’s wife, Geneva (Ryder), by their sides, they’re unbeatable. But Ronny’s world is turned upside down when he inadvertently sees Geneva out with another man and makes it his mission to get answers. As the amateur investigation dissolves his world into comic mayhem, he learns that Nick has a few secrets of his own. Now, with the clock ticking and pressure mounting on the biggest presentation of their careers, Ronny must decide how and when he will reveal the truth to his best friend.
When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. In an assignment unlike any he’s ever known, he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the “Source Code,” a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack. Filled with mind-boggling twists and heart-pounding suspense, Source Code is a smart action-thriller directed by Duncan Jones (Moon) also starring Michelle Monaghan (Eagle Eye, Due Date), Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Departed), and Jeffrey Wright (Quantum of Solace, Syriana).
Incase is pleased to introduce Vagabondage, the third and final film and photo essay in a series of abstractly autobiographical shorts by Aaron Rose using his iPhone 4. Shot on location in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Berlin and Prague, this is his most intimate film yet.
For many, there is an allure to travel, a romantic freedom, but for Rose it’s like living the life of a vagabond. To fulfill one’s wanderlust doesn’t come without sacrifice, as its greatest risk is the loss of community, a disconnection from friends, lovers and family. This is the film’s underlying theme. Levi’s transports us to a world made entirely out of denim. Every surface is a different shade of indigo. The richness and complexities of this fabric give it dimension and life. Front and center is the Levi’s Trucker Jacket, made strong from riveted denim since 1967. But this is only the beginning. Like The Trucker, which has recently been reinterpreted by a series of designers from across the USA, this world seamlessly transforms as we travel from San Francisco, the home of Levi Strauss and Co., to New York City, Los Angeles, Alabama, Oregon and Washington. Each new place, the inspiration for the new evolutions on the iconic denim jacket, is veneered with a different fabric contributed by Levi’s esteemed collaborators. Railroad stripes from Opening Ceremony. Dark denim and leather from Stussy and Neighborhood. Black wool from Billy Reid. A Native American-inspired Jacquard from Pendleton. And, of course, Filson’s famous oiled Tin Cloth. Each new landscape, alive and textured, is a testament to the universality of the trucker, it’s ever-adaptable nature, and the many places it is put to work.
About the Trucker Jacket
First built out of heavy duty riveted denim in 1967. Later constructed from corduroy, leather and canvas. Lined with wool or sherpa for colder weather. Customized, cut-off, and worn-in by workers everywhere. The Levi’s Trucker jacket endures. This year, Levi’s collaborated with a selection of today’s pioneering brands and designers to explore the iconic garment, building it in new fabrications, adding functional elements and tweaking the details. All jackets have been designed and hand built by craftsman in the USA. Although many purists would argue that the Trucker is best in the traditional rigid denim, then worn in over decades of hard work, these special edition jackets prove that there are still many more places to go with the Trucker.
