In 2008, Dior collaborated with Chinese photographer Quentin Shih to produce “Stranger in the Glass Box”. This summer, for the re-opening of the Dior boutique in Shanghai, Shih was asked to lending a helping hand once more to produce a series of images, using the last couture collection, that would be displayed in the boutiques windows.
Shih plays with surreal beauty and creates oil painting-style compositions by retouching his subjects and in this case using one Chinese stereotype and repeating it in a pattern to reinforce the rigor and uniformity of Chinese mass culture.
