ghostface_killah_raekwon_method_man

Say Word! Most likely the most popular and favorite from the legendary Wu-Tang Clan have come together on “Our Dreams” over a loop of Michael Jackson’s “We’re Almost There”. In case you haven’t heard yet, Meth, Ghost and Rae are putting together a group for a album the trio are working on on. They haven’t settled upon a name for the trio yet but who cares, we know this is gonna be on the best albums of 2010. Mark my word!

The Vice Guide to Liberia

Over the last decade natural disasters have left parts of India, Samoa, the United States, and nearly the entire island of Haiti in ruins;   while civil wars, wars on terrorism, and the ancient battle of the religions are only adding to the global body count.  As a privileged (in comparison to non-American societies) American adult, the first event to hit home was 911, but as I divulge myself deeper into my profession I find myself inadvertently affected by travesties around the world.

With the national attention Haiti is receiving, I am compelled to enlighten Americans on the disturbing conditions of one of the poorest countries in the world Liberia.  Unbeknown to many (based on my research); Liberia is a former United States colony, founded by African-American former American slaves. Lupe Fiasco Assists Democrat Running For Obama’s Vacant Seat

lupe-fiasco-main

After just climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, Lupe Fiasco returns and quickly keeps his good deeds in play. Fiasco could help determine who sits in the controversial vacant Senate seat left by President Obama. The rapper will perform at a fundraiser for Chicago Urban League Chief Cheryle Jackson, who is one of five democratic hopefuls running for the seat in the February 2 primary. The seat was held by ousted Governor Rod. Blagojevich, who was impeached and removed from office twice for trying to sell Obama’s seat. Cheryle Jackson, who was Blagojevich’s press secretary during his initial inauguration, left the governor’s office to head up the Chicago Urban League. Lupe will perform at the Shrine Chicago in support of Jackson on January 28.

Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders

Q&A with Director Mark Hopkins

Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders is a riveting documentary following four volunteer doctors serving in post-war Liberia and Congo. This is the first time Medecins Sans Frontiers/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has allowed uncensored access to its field operations. The result is a real look at day-to-day operations in a field clinic with no overly romantic notions of the good that MSF does and overt clarity that MSF cannot solve every medical issue in the regions it serves.

Dr. Divinder Gill is 26 years old, serving in his first mission with MSF, and is stationed in a remote clinic where he is the only expatriate. Dr. Tom Krueger is a veteran surgeon who closed his 20-year-old private practice to serve his first mission with MSF. Dr. Kiara Lepora is a veteran MSF volunteer and is the head of mission in Monrovia, while Dr. Chris Brasher has worked for MSF for 9 years and reached his burnout period. Each of their stories is revealed with honesty and care as the doctors share their candid views on the importance of their work and the frustrations of the tough choices they must make, given the limits of available technology, supplies, and their own abilities. Aakash Nihalani & Mark Jenkins at Carmichael Gallery

carmichael_aakash1

In January 2010, Carmichael Gallery presents On & Off (Often On), the first West Coast solo exhibition of Aakash Nihalani. In addition to a characteristically arresting site-specific installation comprised of brightly colored tape, Nihalani introduces a new artistic direction by using metal and plastic to create sculptural objects.

Aakash Nihalani is fast becoming recognized as one of the US’s most striking emerging installation artists. Celebrated for his ephemeral modifications of the urban landscape, the young Brooklyn-based tape specialist wields an abstract narrative of isometric shapes and flamboyant hues grounded in quiet irony and idiosyncratic precision. The fluidity of his simple, colorful style, which employs familiar shapes to produce unexpected visuals, initiates an inviting, living dialogue that traverses the chaos of city streets, the white walls of the gallery and the constancy of home. Nihalani has built a global fan base by selectively placing his artwork on sidewalks and public spaces around New York.  Continue reading “Aakash Nihalani & Mark Jenkins at Carmichael Gallery” »

Salvatore Ferragamo Spring/Summer 2010

salvatore-ferragamo-main

This spring season, Mario Testino brings us an elegant Claudia Schiffer. The collection is the main focus of this elegant, luxury setting where Claudia is completely devoted to shoes. The shoes might be the stars of the show, but the brand’s timelessly elegant scarves and handbags feature too. This is the farewell line of designer Cristina Ortiz, who created these flowy, sophisticated garments before leaving the brand. Some of them, such as the crocodile and python jacquard skirts, were inspired by Africa. Continue reading “Salvatore Ferragamo Spring/Summer 2010” »

“First Spring” by Prada

Miuccia Prada is trying her hand at revealing her latest collection in a interesting artistic collaboration. This collaboration is with Chinese artist Yang Fudong. Here’s First Spring, a film that was presented during the Fall/Winter 2010 Men’s Fashion Week in Milan. The film tells the story of a man’s misadventures in Shanghai. He’s clothed in Prada, in a dream where everything is possible. The film was inspired by eastern philosophy and by an interesting saying about making a good start to the year’s work.
