On September 14, 2009 shortly after 11am, Malan Breton transformed the Metropolitan Pavilion into a night at the theatre. The warm yellow lights and NYC’s Chelsea Orchestra created the ambiance. While the 30-piece orchestra played a melodic symphony, the models showcased Breton’s eveningwear collection. Breton used silks, neoprene, lace, cotton and wool to create a story of regal debonair men and high-society women infused with whimsy and dance for his Spring 2010 collection. His color scheme included lavender, gold, poppy, amethyst, sapphire, marigold, red and platinum.
For spice, Brenton incorporated a theatrical dance into his show, which the audience loved. A male ballet dancer plied, arabesqued and pirouetted down the runway in a dress shirt, vest and riding gloves. No pants. Later in the show, a female ballet dancer graced runway in a short bridesmaid-esque dress and left the audience wanting more.
Overall, Brenton presented a strong eveningwear collection. To my surprise, my favorite pieces were from the men’s wear collection. The Poppy three piece suit is fierce, the hooded top coat with leather detail is a staple for the season and the brocade suits are attention grabbing. I can’t wait for spring!
