In an effort to create awareness and increase Argentine fashion exports, NYFW’s last night included a Spring 2010 presentation from five Argentine designers: Benito Fernandez, Cardon, Juliana Gacio Min Agostini and Fabian Zitta. Each designer’s presentation was unique and all were infused with Argentine culture. The first designer, Benito Fernandez, created a strikingly colorful collection of flowy maxi dresses, rompers, skirts, and an oversized embellished straw tote. Bright oranges, reds, blues, and purples on the runway. The second designer, Cardon, presented a men’s and women’s line with a cruise vibe. He used linens, cotton and other breezy fabrics in lavender, cream, chartreuse green, and beige to create his prairie dresses, floor length sun dresses, shawls and collard shirts. The third designer, Juliana Gacio, displayed a sexy punk rock inspired line with mini dresses and slinky looks in shimmery gold, silver and black fabrics infused with leather details. Her large black leather tote paired with the black crop jacket looked hot going down the runway. Fabina Zitta presented a collection of heavily detailed puffy dresses in nude colors. The accessories and hair gave the models a glamorous pinup girl look. The remaining designer’s collection was interesting. Very avante garde.
What was my favorite items in the show? The shoes and the oversized bags.
