“Uprising” is the British rock trio’s first No. 1 single in the U.S. as it currently sits atop the Mediabase Alternative Rock radio chart. The track is the first single from the band’s new studio album The Resistance, which was produced by Muse and mixed by famed audio engineer Mark ‘Spike’ Stent. Muse, who performed at Sunday’s 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, will be special guests at select shows for U2, including two shows at Giants Stadium in New York, on September 23rd and 24th.
For the last few years, Muse, which is vocalist/guitarist Matt Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme, and drummer Dom Howard, have played to sell-out crowds throughout the U.S., Asia, Australia, and Europe in support of their previous album Black Holes and Revelations, which debuted at No. 9 on Billboard’s album chart in July 2006. In the U.S., the band–who hail from the tiny town of Teignmouth in Devon, England–performed at the Lollapalooza Festival, the Austin City Limits Music Festival, Las Vegas’s Vegoose Festival, and KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas and sold out New York City’s Madison Square Garden and The Forum in Los Angeles.
