As the summer finally begins to come around in mid-August (Damn you global warming), you can stunt a bit more with your sunglasses and bounce the sun rays back into orbit or just be the not-so-cool guy in the club with his “hater blockers” on. Matt Costa does you the favor of replacing the UV-resistant lenses in his Costalots specs for top-of-the-line Italian-made lenses by eyewear and camera designer Carl Zeiss. They’re standard-issue in the range’s new Diego frame (pictured), which comes in both polarized and nonpolarized versions. The shape’s inspired by protective eyewear (and are made by Titmus Optical, which still manufactures industrial safety glasses and goggles) but the look is fifties-retro—Clark Kent had a pair not too dissimilar from these. He’s a guy who especially appreciated the necessity of clearly seeing sandstorms and airborne assailants, but the Zeiss lenses will be in all three of the Costalots shapes going forward. As Costa says, “The difference in crispness and clarity of vision is there for the enjoying.” Not to mention the projectile-ducking.
