Summers indicate a time to celebrate and to rejoice. And for the LGBT members of the US, Europe, and the rest of the world it is the time to display their pride as non-heterosexual individuals. These celebrations are always a loud, showy, and exhilarating time for those who eagerly visit the festivities in some of the best cities in the world: Paris, NYC, Cologne, Munich, Barcelona, San Francisco, London etc. They are celebrations of Human Rights and Identity and the freedom to be who you are. Yet, the CSD parades and Gay Pride parties of 2009 had even more to chant about this year. For, this summer marked the 40th anniversary of the first moment in history when the homosexual community stood up against government-sponsored groups for the sake of non-hetero minorities: STONEWALL.
The Stonewall riots occurred in late June 1969 as the homosexual community in Greenwich Village in NYC spontaneously rioted against the all-too-frequent police raids against homosexual activities. The Stonewall Inn, at the time, was a location that many men in drag, homosexuals, and other non-hetero groups frequented during the 60s. After too many raids from the police, the community retaliated in demonstrations that brought the community together and stood as another great beacon of human rights movements that marked the 60s in American society. Very rarely do I see artwork that makes me stop for a moment and say, “whoa!” Actually with constant advertisements, countless graffiti spots, and repetitive music, I become quickly indifferent to modern artists of all genres. And then I walk down the street every once and a while and see some of the most intriguing, beautiful, and shocking arts of work that restore my faith in contemporary artists. And I’m sure Julian Beever’s work would shock most of us:
No, these individuals are not in motion—they are stationary on pavement, perfectly positioned on one of Beever’s chalk masterpieces. This English-Belgian artist has been drawing since the mid-1990s and when one stands at the correct angle, they see a three dimensional illusion.
The art form is called Anamorphosis and has been dated back to the time of da Vinci. Yet, Beever has brought it literally to the streets of the UK, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, the US, and many other nations. These pavement pieces naturally attract large crowds for the artist; however, even with the attention and fame, Julian Beever remains independent as a freelance artist. The best part of his artwork, nevertheless, is the viewer’s ability to interact with the pieces. They become a living part of a well-designed illusion. An illusion that still makes me look twice and gives respect to modern artistes. Continue reading “Julian Beever” »
Steven Strawder started out two years ago selling clothes from his MySpace page. Now, he rubs shoulders with the likes of Al Sharpton, Fashion Week executives, and traveling nationwide on a whim. These days, it’s his glasses he wears that gets all the attention, and it doesn’t hurt that celebs ranging from Beyonce, Eva Marcille Pigford, Santigold, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna wear his glasses as well.
I was able to sit at my desk and have a great conversation with Stevie Boi.
I wanna thank you for your time, Stevie, with Limité Magazine. Let’s start with rumors of the reality show, is that still gonna happen?
SB: The reality show with a designer I know, um… it’s still in the works, I’m supposed to be a part of the show but I’m not exactly 100% sure if its gonna happen in the next six months, but it will happen before next year.
And what network was that pitching that idea at you?
As one of the most anticipated movies of this year that will take us back in time to those cherished moments of our childhood, Maurice Sendak and Spike Jonze deliver this ‘featurette’ speaking about the forthcoming film version of the iconic children’s book Where The Wild Things Are. The film has received a lot of buzz online as spectators are excited to see how Jonze has brought Sendak’s book to life. In fact, Sendak remarks in the clip that Jonze has managed to make a ‘peculiar’ film in keeping with the book.
In this second and final installment of the “Young Hollywood” series, we explore some of film’s and TV’s new and future stars. These actors are on the verge of breaking out into long, successful careers.
Please feel free to add on to the conversation by posting a comment on others you feel should be added onto this list.

Robert Pattinson
Age: 23
From: London, England
Credits:Twilight (2008), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
The British Invasion hit the US pretty strongly in the ’60s, but every now and then, a straggler hops across the pond as a reminder that talent exists beyond our borders. British import Robert Pattinson’s arrival hit America like a speeding train, traveling so fast that tabloids and celebrity gossip websites practically struggled to keep up with the fresh dirt he provided.
Though Pattinson has been around for a bit (playing Cedric Diggory in 2005′s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), it was his portrayal as Edward Cullen in Twilight (2008) that entranced audiences. Starring in the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novel, Pattinson sunk his teeth into the part of a vampire who saves the life of and falls in love with Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart. The actor’s breakthrough role positioned him as pop culture’s newest darling/sex symbol, earning him the “title” of 2008′s Hot Actor by Rolling Stone and three MTV Movie Awards (Best Fight, Best Kiss, Breakthrough Performance Male).
Pattinson first found himself in front of a camera at the age of 12, in a modeling career that lasted just four years. He involved himself with amateur theatre through the Barnes Theatre Company before catching the attention of an acting agent while performing in Tess of the D’Urbervilles. Yadda, yadda, yadda-he landed on our shores and intrigued us by his acting and musical ability. (Pattinson enjoys playing the guitar and piano. He even appeared on two tracks on the Twilight soundtrack.) The actor will reprise his role in the upcoming vampire flick sequel, New Moon. He’ll also be shelving his fangs for Remember Me, a 2010 release that also stars Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper.
Zoe Saldana
Age: 31
From: Queens, NY
Credits:Star Trek (2009), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
“I’m very proud to say I am a geek. But I’m kind of a cool geek. I grew up in a very sci-fi home, so I’ve seen a lot of sci-fi movies, from Dune to Alien, 2001, ET, Batteries Not Included. All these films I go crazy for. But never Star Trek.” Says the woman who was in Star Trek. Zoe Saldana has been around for awhile, but it was her role as Uhura in the 2009 blockbuster, playing Spock’s and Kirk’s love interest, that made us take notice. For many of us, it wasn’t until after the movie ended that our thoughts of “who’s that girl” lead us to Saldana’s IMDb page, only for us to find that we’ve seen her before. Starring opposite Johnny Depp as pirate Anamaria in 2003′s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the fully capable Saldana commandeered her scenes from Depp, but didn’t appear in any of the Disney franchise’s sequels.
Saldana was born in New Jersey, but was raised in Queens, New York until the age of 10. Her real-life’s storyline then took her to the Caribbean, but not for a part in a movie. She lived in the Dominican Republic with her family for seven years. While there, she became active in dance and studied at the prestigious ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy. At 17, Saldana moved back to the US and began theatre work before being discovered and pirouetting her way into the part of Eva in dance flick Center Stage (2000).
Among the actress’s credits is a part in the Bernie Mac/Ashton Kutcher vehicle Guess Who (2005), for which she received nominations for a Black Movie Award, Black Reel Award, Image Award, and Teen Choice Award. (Saldana is so talented that we’ll even forgive her for her part in the 2002 Britney Spears-starring vehicle, Crossroads.) The actress has several productions in the works, but perhaps the most notable is James Cameron’s (Titanic) feature Avatar, in which Saldana will star opposite Michelle Rodriguez, Sam Worthington and Hollywood heavyweight Sigourney Weaver. Although the group’s music hasn’t hit American shores yet, Limité Magazine sees a pretty bright future for the already bright-haired lead singer of UK’s new electropop synth band La Roux(French for Red-haired). Already with three popular singles in Europe “Quicksand,” “In For the Kill,” and “Bulletproof,” La Roux seems to be turning countless heads with her incredibly soothing voice on top of electrosynth beats and to be keeping those heads watching with her fresh combed over fiery red hairdo.
Scheduled to be released in the US in the next two months, alternative music fans out there should be ready for the coming of another UK songstress much unlike those we’ve seen before (Amy Winehouse, Adele…). Even though her music is usually that of European discos and fleeting pop fans, we see a bright future for La Roux with the inevitable yet hopeful flock of American style groups to collaborate with the young Brit.
Catch La Roux’s self title album late September 2009.

Mike Posner is a 21 year-old singer, songwriter, producer, and college student at Duke University. Originally from Southfield, Michigan, Mike Posner began playing music in the fifth grade. By age thirteen, he was already producing his own beats.
Earlier this month, we featured Mike Posner in Drop-top Music Vol. 2, and last week he took some time for a little Q&A with Limité. We asked Mike about music, school, social networks — just about everything — and he was full of answers. Enjoy.
Who were some of your biggest influences growing up?
I was blessed to grow up in a really diverse area so I was constantly around different types of kids. I think that reflected a lot in the music I listened to growing up. You know, on the school bus, for a week it would be like Led Zeppelin. The next week it would be the Roots. The next week was Paul Simon, Elton John, and Jay-Z. Everything.
But all those artists I listened to throughout the years, I feel like I’m able to take strands of each of them and weave them into the thread that’s become my music and my sound.
How would you describe your sound?
It’s music you can drive around with your boys to in the car. Then when you pick up your girl for a date, you can leave my CD in. Continue reading “Q&A: Mike Posner” »
Many times we’ve told you that the Clipse are a force not to be reckoned with, and time and time again they’ve proven correct. One of our favorite groups in Hip Hop delivers another track from their upcoming album which is a slight turn from the witty dough boy lingo we’re accustomed to… don’t judge just yet; we’re sure the dynamic duo is gonna drop another for that ass.

BAM, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
How fast time goes by is beyond me! We all can remember sitting in front of the tube and learning about ABC’s and counting from 1 to 10 from the creations of Jim Henson. Now 30 years later, the cast of the Muppets are coming out of retirement to haunt us one more time. Sit there and deny the Muppets if you want… but then we would fail in our job of keeping you updated on the finer things in life . The ever so nice folks of Brooklyn Academy of Music will be hosting tonight a special screening of The Muppet Movie. As Kermit makes his way to Hollywood, he assembles his team of like-minded individuals, including Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and more. With wonderful songs, the coolest rock band in history, Dr. Teeth & the Electric Mayhem, and a surprisingly existential denouement, this classic film now celebrates its 30th anniversary. View the trailer after the jump. Continue reading “The Muppet Movie 30th Anniversary” »
