When Lamborghini (my all time Fav car by the way!!) unveiled the Estoque Concept car last fall, it suggested, without providing any details, that the V8 Hybrid version of the 4-door supercar was under consideration. Now, the exclusive Italian automaker has announced it will be developing a hybrid system for future models. Yet, still, the announcement comes with you details. Which is one of the main reasons I halted, seriously halted for 4 weeks, on writing about this preposterous assumption.
However my fellow Lamborghinians… there is ample evidence to support Lambos seriousness on improving energy efficiency. For one thing, it has not only developed a plan to reduce CO2 emissions by 35% by 2015, but as a corollary it will also be reducing the CO2 emissions of the factory by 30% next year with the construction of its new photovoltaic plant! Lamborghini will also be conducting research into a hybrid system as part of a 35 million euro investment in the plan to reduce emissions in its vehicles.
It cites last years Gallardo LP 560-4 as a case in point, where non-hybrid technology was employed to deliver a 18% reduction in that model’s CO2 emissions. That sounds like a glimmer of hope. But a hybrid system will only be part of the plan to reduce vehicle emissions by 35%. Lamborghini will also be working on improved engine management and combustion, reducing friction and weight, employment of stop-start technology and even the introduction of bio-fuel-ready vehicles. As I sit hear and think about the good old days in my Lambo, stopping for gas every 30 min, hearing the engine roar, women watching as a drive 20 mph on the highway, cops pulling me over like they’ve never seen a young Dominican Male in a sports car before. Those were indeed the good old days. Lamborghini also stated that the Murcielago Successor will be delayed till 2012. I know she’ll be a beauty.
Now all I think about it the future. Who in the Hell wants to hear silence when they rev their Murcielago!!! Pray for me.
