Opening November 2009
Tyler Rollins Fine Art
529 West 20th Street, 10W
New York 10011

Sopheap Pich’s explosive talent has landed him as one of most highly acclaimed Cambodian contemporary artists. As the eldest son of refugee parents, his work breaks through conventional barriers that voice his ideals of freedom, movement and beauty. Pulling inspiration directly from his heritage, he creates a stimulating and unique balance between traditional ideas and new dreams. His experimental works push artistic boundaries and challenge viewer’s expectations.

Pich uses bamboo and rattan to create free-flowing, biomorphic sculptures and installations that resonate with memories from his childhood. He uses a slow and repetitive motion for his materials to surrender against resistance. This process allows his pieces to speak to him and ultimately his audience.

Pich describes the upcoming exhibit at TFRA as electric. Along with his sculptures, he will be featuring drawings and woodcut prints, which experiment with color and solid forms.
