Taking place in Switzerland’s beautifully picturesque Basel starting today, Art Basel is the world’s premier international art show for modern and contemporary works. A favorite rendezvous for the global art world, Art Basel takes place annually and features virtually 300 leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa. The show will run through June 14th.
A feast for the eyes, the work of more than 2,500 artists – ranging from great modern art masters to up-and-coming stars – is represented in the show’s various sections. The exhibition includes the highest-quality paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, photographs, video and editioned works.
Basel is undoubtedly the ultimate location for the tens of thousands of Art Basel attendees, who include art collectors, art dealers, artists, curators and art enthusiasts. Rich in history and culture, Basel, which is located on the banks of the Rhine, at the border between Switzerland, France and Germany, is known for its world-class museums, outdoor art, theaters, concert halls and idyllic medieval old town. It is certainly the perfect backdrop to what France’s Le Monde has called “La meilleure foire du monde.” (“The best fair in the world.”)
Art Basel’s sister US show, Art Basel Miami Beach, will take place from December 3-6, 2009.
