After listening to Drake’s recent mixtape So Far So Gone, this talented gent immediately won a spot on our Faces to Watch 2009 list. We first heard about Drake thru various music sites but never took the time to take a listen until we downloaded So Far So Gone and was extremely surprised and highly impressed with Drake’s lyrical skills; rhyming and crooning, sometimes in the same song.
We take Drake’s latest single “Brand New” and make it our Weekly Song to Get It On To. Drake seriously serenades the panties off ladies with this song. Deny it if you want, but this song will make a guy lick his lips like LL for his girl. Paying attention to her needs, willing to give her what keeps that smile on face and wanting to know anything he’s doing is brand new after being placed on that pedestal that some gents will do, all to find about certain experiences with the previous boytoy that might not sit to well with the new boytoy. Drake lays it down, politely and smooth.

Drake released So Far Gone back in February. The mixtape featured artists such as Trey Songz, Lil Wayne, Peter Bjorn & John, Lloyd, Lykke Li, Santogold, Bun B, and Omarion. Drake is in the beginning stages of recording his major label debut, tentatively titled Thank Me Later, which is projected to be released in early 2009. The album is slated to include guest appearances by acts such as Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, Danny!, Chris Brown and others.
It has been confirmed by Interscope & Columbia/Music World Records that Drake will collaborate with R&B and pop vocalist Michelle Williams on the song “Hungover”, on the deluxe version of her album Unexpected, due for a spring 2009 release. He also worked on Dr. Dre’s highly-anticipated Detox album, to be released in 2009.
