Closing out the month of March with over 600,000 more people losing their jobs, we have a bit of good news for those looking employment once more.
The federal government is hiring 1.4 million people as part of it’s $14 billion population count. Census 2010 is funneling money into local communities by renting office spaces and furnishing them as census stations. $212 million will go into advertising, mainly used in 2010 to urge people to return their forms.
Census 2010 is coming in as the most expensive in the 220- year history of the population count. Yes, the Census means you will be working for the government and if you do get hired, you can be employed till September 2010, and no college degrees are necessary. Salaries and tenures vary with the position and region you’re employed. Some managers are cashing in up to $34 an hour for two-year assignments, while field staff earn between $10 – $25 and hour for up to 10 week’s work.
Currently, there are 10,000 people the bureau is recruiting for the 12 regional and 150 local centers that are already open. In addition to the 140,000 people to go across the neighborhoods nationwide to check 145 million addresses using handheld computers.
The agency will ramp up it’s testing and hirings this fall as it opens another 350 local offices and prepares to mail the census forms in March 2010; hiring about 1.2 million people in the process of the 3.1 million recruited.
