San Francisco continues to blossom with the new addition of the Paul Smith Shop located on Geary Street. The new shop will not only sell men’s and women’s clothing and accessories but books, objects, and curiosities. This shop is like no other, it’s full of its own character and individuality.
“I instantly fell in love with the building because of its strong 1950′s façade; a strong, graphic piece of architecture.” says Paul Smith. The Geary Street location was chosen because of its strong 1950′s facade, capturing a strong graphic piece of architecture. Inside are a series of rooms, each with their own character so when you’re visiting it’s more a exploration of amazing things that the shop has to offer.
At the Geary Street entrance, the shoe and accessories room reflects the mid 20th century with decor inspired by great American designers such as Donald Judd, Paul Evans and Karl Springer. Mounted color panels channel the famous block colors used by Donald Judd, while the chairs and stools in this area were created by Pace.
In the suit room the contrast of the different design eras is most apparent. Dominating the room is dramatic mahogany panelling, originally from a 19th century bank, manufactured by ‘Pottier and Stymus Co’. Above the panelling, hangs a collection of over 30 Vaclav Trefil abstract paintings from the 1940′s and 50′s.
Paul Smith San Francisco will follow the whimsical tradition of turning your shopping experience into a treasure hunt of all sorts. In addition to all things Paul Smith, there will be a selection of period furniture, as well as, an array of vintage and contemporary books.
