March Madness

“March Madness” just got madder! A tournament that begins with 64 teams in finally down the “Final Four”. As March Madness winds down for the win, leaving 60 teams disappointed as two final four regulars, the underdogs, and Huskies will give their all for the last few games of the College 2008-2009 basketball season.

This weekend teams went home after coming so close to a coveted spot in the Final Four. On Sunday, March 29, 2009, North Carolina and Michigan joined Villanova and Connecticut which finalized the quartet. Expected teams like Syracuse, Pittsburg, and Oklahoma University played great games but were unable to come out winners, and inevitably were dropped out of the race to advance to one of the limited 4 spots reserved for Detroit’s Ford Field.

This weekend, April 4-6th about 72,000 fans will cheer on the final four in anticipation of the 2009 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) champions. True NCAA fans are familiar with the more popular final four teams, like North Carolina (2005 Champions) who seeks a 5th victory, and Michigan State a third win. Michigan, who will travel the least distance to Detroit’s Ford Field, makes their 7th trip in the Final Four spot.

Although the Tar Heels and Spartans are rather familiar with ranking at the top during championship games, they will be the so-called “under dogs”, Villanova’s first trip to the final four since 1985. Nevertheless, after over 20 years, fans have faith that this could be the year for them to win it all. As for “lucky” UConn this year will mark their second advance to the final four.

The final question for the final four remains: who will be the 2009 NCAA Champions? As all four teams are confident in their game, it will all ball down to who plays the best in the semi-finals on Saturday April 4th and finally the championship on the following Sunday. As the biggest event in college basketball season comes to an end, which teams have your votes to becoming the NCAA 2009 champions?
