Blue Planet Aquarium – Denmark

Designed by the innovative architects at 3XN, The Blue Planet brings together art and architecture within its sculptural twists and turns. This futuristic architectural example is aptly inspired by everything oceanic. “The starting point was the magnificent experience of actually watching fish in their element,” says Kim Herforth Nielsen, Principal Architect, 3XN. “We wanted to create that adventurous feeling, and we took inspiration in the natural phenomenon of the whirlpool or maelstrom drawing you into the deep. As a sculpture by the coast it unites the natural elements of water, air and earth.” Inside, a circular central hall is enclosed in a succession of rooms that follow the curve of the building.
