Q&A: Max Jenke

Name / Alias: Max Jenke

What do you currently do for a living?

I am Director of Endeavor Snowboard Design which is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I started it with a crew of friends when I was riding professionally. I just finished designing our sixth range of boards…pretty crazy.

Where are you originally from?

Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, which is rare since no one is actually from here it is a very transient city. Good place to grow up with the local hills ten minutes from downtown and Whistler an hour away.

Where will Endeavor Snowboard be going in the next year?

The next year is pretty exciting…our mission is to make the best snowboards in the world and we continue to push ourselves. Our designs for ‘09 are off the hook and our new board shapes are crazy… we are moving to the next level and are achieving our mission.

What inspires you in your daily pursuit of Life?

Innovative design, unique creativity, travel, music, internet, fashion, my wife Natasha, the artists I work with to create the line, the factories I work with who produce the line, Bruce my business partner, and my little homie Maddox.

What are your wardrobe trademarks?

Acne or Ksubi denim, Endeavor tee, Endeavor quilt hoody, Nice Collective jacket, Visvim’s or Nikes.

What’s your favorite song?

Right now you can’t deny that Lil’ Wayne is unstoppable…so anything he’s on.

What songs are at the top of your play-list right now?

Nas – Hero

My Life – The Game feat. Lil’ Wayne

Love in this Club Part 2 Feat. Beyonce & Lil Wayne – Usher

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang – High Contrast

California Soul (Diplo/Mad Decent Remix) – Marlena Shaw

Mr. Carter Feat Jay Z – Lil’ Wayne

What’s your favorite meal?

Sushi without a doubt. Vancouver has an amazing sushi following and some of the best chefs in the world. If you’re ever in town, the spots to hit are Toshi, The Eatery, Honjin, or Tojos.

What books are you currently reading?

After high school the last thing I wanted to do was read a book. When I first started Endeavor, I was given some entrepreneurial books - I loved Rebel Billionaire by Richard Branson – very inspiring and a must read. Now, to escape business, I’ve been hooked on Lee Child books. His character Jack Reacher is the ultimate male protagonist.

What new projects are you building on right now?

Doing everything we do but better. That’s the big project. Refining our systems, getting the business to operate like clockwork. We have a lot of divisions: snowboards, technical outerwear, streetwear, Airhole Ninja Masks. It’s a lot of shit but it’s been amazing to launch and build on.

What’s the most memorable moment on your board?

Floating through five feet of fresh snow on Christmas day 2006 at Whistler with the funnest crew…head rolling and laughing all the way to the round house for mulled wine. Doesn’t get better than that.

What’s your favorite mountain?

Although I was raised on the local hills (Seymour, Grouse, Cypress), you can’t beat the long runs and fast chairlifts at Whistler. It’s nice leaving the city even if it’s for the weekend…

Favorite local spot you feel people need to check out?

If you come to Vancouver, I would suggest hitting Seymour, Grouse, and Cypress for a day each. Then rolling to Whistler for a couple of days. If you’re on a mission, you can always hit Mt. Baker which is two hours from Vancouver. All legendary spots where snowboardings’ greats have come from!

What super hero powers do you wish you had?

Being invisible or teleporting.

If you could interview someone else, who and why?

Richard Branson. He’s on my list of people to meet. He’s accomplished amazing things by doing things his way and taking risks. I admire that.

What does success mean to you?

A healthy work life balance and achieving my life plan goals, one being going to the moon.
